Participants will then have the opportunity for Q&A with the speakers towards the end of the lunch. The workshop will serve as the formal kickoff to a year long campaign focused on increasing the number of diverse innovators in health technology and addressing the lack of inclusive technologies in today's market. Thanks to everyone who applied for conference support! We are no longer accepting applications. The initiative is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The one size fits-all approach to healthcare is no longer acceptable. To survive, organizations must evolve from using traditional population segmentation approaches that serve the sickcare system, to creating a holistic personalized experience that guides consumers to optimized health. But how do you connect with consumers at an individual level and serve up the right resources, at the right time?

The secret is to fully understand and engage with consumers both within and outside of the healthcare system through a new combination of applied analytics, cognitive computing and consumer inputs. This lunch & learn will explore how industry innovators are leveraging data and enterprise-level technologies to create a truly personalized experience for their consumers. The session will also include a panel of analytics, engagement and rewards experts. Harvey Fineberg is the former president of the Institute of Medicine and currently serves as the president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

As the health care system continues to bend under the weight of serious challenges, including: patients who don’t understand and aren’t engaged with their own health care; outdated ways of delivering and paying for care; lack of coordination for patients with chronic conditions; and skyrocketing costs. Something needs to change. This session will focus on how we might reimagine how care can be delivered, accessed and paid for. Deb will also describe how UnitedHealth Group is breaking down barriers to accessing quality care – particularly in the areas of prenatal care, chronic care management, seniors’ and children’s health – while developing innovative payment approaches that encourage better value for care. James Madara, MD, the CEO of the American Medical Association returns to Health 2.0.

In 2015 he talked about the AMA’s wider role in changing American health care, including its founding of Health2047, its partnership with Matter and its role in SMART. But since then, in a widely quoted speech he’s called digital health the “snake oil of the early 21st century.” So does he love us or hate us? Matthew will interview him in a no-holds-barred discussion of the state of play, the role of tech in doctors’ offices and in our lives, and what the Health 2.0 community needs to do to improve. This should be a good one!

In representing the voice of U.S. Physicians, one of the AMA’s most important goals is to improve the health of the nation by helping physicians in every state and across every specialty adapt and thrive in the new health care environment. One way the AMA does this is by building bridges between physicians and entrepreneurs in health care so that investments, programs and strategic partnerships can grow. Engage with the AMA over lunch and case study presentations from several of the Partners within the AMA’s innovation ecosystem and hear first-hand how the AMA has been investing in, supporting and encouraging physician collaboration in digital health and medicine.

Whether it’s monitoring glucose level, cardiac rhythms or anything in between, new technologies have made collecting accurate real-time data possible. In addition to providing helpful information for consumers, the insights from tracking tools have helped health professionals gain a better understanding of healthy behaviors and lifestyles. With the hundreds of trackers and monitors in the health technology market today, this session will showcase those that are not only beautifully designed, but are also some of the most innovative and effective in the market today. According to the CDC, chronic diseases are responsible for a majority of the health care costs in the United States and contribute to 7 out of every 10 deaths.

Often difficult to manage, health technologies are making it much easier for chronic disease patients to control and monitor their symptoms, have remote check-ins with clinicians and coaches, or even find communities of patients that have the same illness. In this session, we will take a look at some of the leading platforms to help patients manage their chronic diseases. Health technology continues to rapidly evolve with new and innovative solutions. For health technology companies offering employee focused products, it can be hard to stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace. With so many different options to choose from and steady a stream of health technology companies vying for their attention, employers can be left with “choice-fatigue.” The most successful healthcare technology companies anticipate the challenges of program implementation, ongoing employee engagement, and measuring ROI making the new vendor selection process for employers easy. Along with several demos, this panel will share candid thoughts about the current state, future needs, and what makes for success serving large employers along. Our healthcare system is broken.

A handful of companies are blazing a new trail in medicine by using a patient’s genomic data and comprehensive medical history for a variety of medical decisions. This session will feature a variety of companies in this space, from companies that use mutation data to help patients and providers find relevant clinical trials to companies that use genetic information for the prediction of certain conditions. These companies are the trailblazers in the up-and-coming field of genomics and personalized medicine. Consumers compare prices and shop around before they purchase just about anything - from groceries to cars.

However, when it comes to the realm of health care, this rule rarely seems to hold true. Do we contribute this to a lack of information, the unique features of the health care marketplace, or something else entirely? This breakout will showcase the companies that are looking to help consumers search for the best doctors and health plans and companies that are even helping physicians find the best care for their patients.

All those IPOs - even Fitbit - are looking a little sickly.

At least one of those health related unicorns is close to turning into unicorpse (Sorry, Elizabeth, but you should have taken our offer to speak last year!!), and rounds have sometimes been down. But there is some M&A, lots of venture money is still coming into the space and many companies are getting funded-and that’s not even counting the $Billion in China!

Generally acknowledged as being one of the funniest and most perceptive speakers in health care, Ian is an internationally known author, consultant and futurist.

He was President at Institute for the Future in the 1990s, founded the Strategic Health Perspectives service, and is in more health care board rooms and conference halls that almost anyone. At Health 2.0 Ian will share his latest insights into the future of health care - and yes, he used to be Matthew Holt’s boss and never minded lending out his jokes. Matthew’s still telling them.

Underserved communities have complex health needs that are often poorly addressed by the current system. Health technology should be able to make a difference, yet the latest innovations tend to not to reflect the needs of those populations who may benefit from them the most. At Health 2.0, we think it’s time to address these problems head on, and we’ll spotlight the organizations, foundations, and stakeholders that are currently engaging in innovative new partnerships and pilot programs within diverse and underserved communities and emerging markets across the globe. Grab a cocktail and leave your phones at the door, this “off the record” session is going to take a look at the what’s really happening with Health IT. Pumped full of truth serum our panelists will tell all about their experiences in navigating and often failing at trying to fix our complicated health care system. Investing mistakes, lying to investors, lying to customers, it’s all on the table and we won’t be holding back so push back your dinner plans as this is can’t miss content. The bar is open and seats are limited so let us know if you can attend. Inundated with paperwork, patients and logistics, it can be difficult for providers to connect with one another for support, collect data to monitor their decisions or provide accurate care plans and diagnoses.

Focusing on provider-to-provider communication tools, efficient file sharing, and patient data collection, this breakout will showcase the newest platforms which make it easier than ever for providers to tap into shared knowledge, consult with their peers, and leverage patient data to deliver high quality, accurate care. EMRs are integral to efficient workflows, accurate tracking, and patient-centered care. This session will feature companies that are focused upon reimagining this experience. Although some companies are focused on redesigning the structure of the EMR itself, other companies are focused on other aspects of the experience, such as pushing and pulling patient information into the EMR or efficiently navigating the EMR itself. This session will demonstrate the wide variety of solutions that are being used to improve this experience. Although the recent infusion of billions of government dollars into health IT has encouraged providers and hospitals to adopt efficiency-enhancing technologies, many critical health services are still delivered using inefficient systems and processes.

This can make it very difficult to run an efficient practice and to properly engage patients in their care. The companies in this session represent the many ways to approach this issue, including the improvement of check-in processes, new patient relationship management platforms and more efficient care delivery platforms. According to the US Administration on Aging, by 2060, there will be about 98 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2014. Needless to say, this population is growing rapidly and technology is going to play a significant role in its support!

This session will be packed with innovative solutions that are closing the gaps in care, ranging from finding helping facilities better manage dementia patients, having virtual round-the-clock personalized wellness coaching, or coordinating care for patients in skilled nursing facilities. Join Garmin, LifeQ and Tictrac for a panel discussion and end-to-end demonstration of how partnering can result in high value solutions for health monitoring, wellness and health insurance markets.

We are now in a market where partnering and opening up ecosystem development is a key skill set to deliver rich data, differentiated value and true results oriented information to end users and businesses in healthcare. The thesis is that each partner really focuses on their subject matter expertise and by partnering with others with their own expertise the sum of the whole will deliver a compounded level of value to the health industry.

We will demonstrate partnering in action and also show that every partner clearly adds value and then derives significant benefits back (both commercial and product related).
